The Southwest Regional Banjo Rally is upon us yet again. The location is the same as previous years, Backwell W.I. hall, which is located in the centre of the village, eight miles south of Bristol on the A370. Easy access is gained from all directions using either the M4 or M5 motorways. There is also a regular train service to Backwell (Nailsea) as it is situated on the main London to Penzance line with connections from Bristol Temple Meads. Backwell (Nailsea) train station is only ten minutes walk from the WI hall. Doors open at 11.30 and playing continues from 12:30 through until 5:30pm. Admission is £3.00 The format remains the same during the afternoon rally with organised playing and regular breaks for buying and selling instruments and music. The usual friendly faces will be on hand to provide a range of refreshments, these include, filled rolls, home made cakes and gallons of tea and coffee, all at reasonable prices, so there is no need to bring food with you. Anyone wishing to perform and would like accompaniment, do not leave it until the last moment, please ask now, those second parts need practice as well. There is always someone willing to offer support. Those wishing to sell musical goods, please advise prior to the day to reserve your space. Although the Backwell Rally is intended for finger style banjo, other instruments can be used for accompaniment. Please understand that we welcome anyone wishing to attend and willingly encourage newcomers seeking advice and instruction. As in previous years, the evening playing will continue at the Bridge Inn Yatton, all types of instruments are welcome and encouraged, meals and accommodation are available at the Bridge Inn, contact 01934 839100 to book a room. The finale to the Backwell Rally has proven to be a great success in previous years with a relaxed atmosphere, good food, good ale and above all good company. All are welcome; there is no charge for the evening event. Why not make it a weekend break and visit the surrounding Mendip Hills and Cheddar Gorge or the Victorian seaside resorts of Clevedon and Weston-Super-Mare, all within close proximity.
