Mark Walsh started playing the ukulele banjo in 1994 and since then he has become one of the finest ukulele performers in the world today. Because of his interest in George Formby’s music and his style of playing the ukulele, Mark has recently recorded a CD devoted to the music of George Formby. For more information about this CD click here or click on the Ukulele Recordings button at the top of the page.
Mark's stage act always includes the comedy songs of George Formby but also includes melody pieces on the ukulele. Mark was inspired to do this by the late great Billy "Uke" Scott who was the first player of the instrument to prove that melody could be played on the ukulele. Billy was a great Variety star of the 1940's and 50's and was a great inspiration to generations of ukulele players. Mark always includes a tribute to Billy in his act.
Mark has appeared in many variety shows across the UK and has been featured on Radio and Television for the BBC and Channel 4.
Several years ago because of his keen interest in the ukulele banjo Mark started making new ukuleles. For more information about these handmade ukuleles click here or click on the Handmade Ukulele button at the top of the page to go to the Handmade Ukulele webpage.
